Climate Data Analyst

Minerva Intelligence is a Vancouver-based software company creating decision support solutions for the climate risk and mineral exploration markets. We're looking for a Climate Data Analyst to join our team our multi-disciplinary team!

The Climate Data Analyst will provide domain expertise in climate data and help to develop and refine Minerva’s AI products. The Climate Data Analyst will help our Climate Risk Department in developing Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products for various industry sectors.

We are looking for a scientifically minded professional who has a strong technical background in a climate-related field and has an excellent data analytics skillset. The right person will be eager to work with an intimate team to build a product that will help Canadian companies better understand the physical risks associated with climate change that they face.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Refine your climate data analysis skills
  • Become familiar with ontologies and knowledge representation
  • Perform data harmonization, cloud storage and processing
  • Assist in developing tools to speed up geospatial data analysis
  • Integrate climate change projections with natural hazard information to assess property-level climate risk
  • Contribute to project management, product design, proposal and report writing
  • Present at international conference and trade shows

To help us level up, you have the following required experience:

  • Excellent understanding of climate science, data science and geographic information systems (GIS)
  • A background in atmospheric science, climate data science, and/or geography
  • Competency with programming in Python, R or otherwise
  • A good command of statistical data analysis and machine learning algorithms

Ideally, you will also have the following skills:

  • Focused background in applied climate risk analysis for the financial, real estate, and infrastructure sectors
  • Familiarity with climate risk disclosure regulations (TCFD)
  • Familiarity with physical climate risks assessments (wildfire, flood, landslide, hurricane etc.)
  • Familiarity with big data, data standards, and ontologies
