MetaOptima Technology Inc. is currently offering an internship position for a Camera Engineer Specialist. The position is available through the MITACS program to current Master's and PhD students with deep experience in camera technology and embedded boards to develop and troubleshoot cameras for Linux based devices. The duration of the internship is a minimum of 4 months or longer and extensions are possible. The work spans integration of sensors at the hardware/MIPI bus-level, through Linux driver, multimedia framework, and Hardware Abstraction Libraries. 

Camera Engineering candidates must have a strong technical background. Good analytical, problem solving, and communication skills are essential as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

You will need knowledge and experience in camera sensors, lenses, ISP, embedded boards, and camera interfaces such as MIPI and USB. Practical Linux kernel driver development experience is a firm requirement. Experience in Qualcomm Snapdragon boards is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Core development of advanced camera, driver bring-up, and sensor tuning.

  • Bring-up of new camera hardware designs; read schematics and HW documentation and understand the camera bring-up process.

  • Quickly ramp up and become a key contributor within a team of experienced engineers.

  • Fix issues and provide technical guidance on a Linux kernel driver and Linux multimedia framework issues.

  • Stay abreast of technical areas and provide knowledge transfer to fellow team members.

  • Support design team through iterative testing and ongoing support from early prototype to product launch.

Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical/software engineering or equivalent. Advanced technical degree desirable.

  • Experience with embedded processors, hardware interfaces, communication protocols, multi-threaded programming, Linux, or equivalent system testing.

  • Require strong communication skills (written and spoken English).

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the areas of camera design, components and functions.

  • Experience in the integration of a wide range of drivers is an advantage.

  • Experience in camera hardware bringup, familiarity with HW documentation such as schematic and layout drawings.

  • Good working knowledge of embedded or mobile devices.

  • Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills, in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proven experience in OpenGLES, OpenCV is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Python/C/C++ language.

  • Require a solid understanding of software development.

  • Thorough understanding of image quality metrics and evaluation methodology.

  • Familiarity with megapixel CMOS image sensor technology, lens selection and qualification, implementation of camera systems in mobile products, and familiarity with imaging algorithms (auto-exposure, auto white balance, auto-focus,..etc.)

  • Experience with objective camera bench testing and subjective image quality analysis.
